Paris 2024 Olympics

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will showcase 3,800 hours of live sport and award 329 gold medals in 32 sports over 18 days of competition across the capital and in other parts of France.

When do the Olympics start?

The opening ceremony to signal the official start of the Paris 2024 Olympics will be held on Friday, 26 July.


But the sporting action actually begins on Wednesday, 24 July with pool matches in football, rugby sevens, handball and archery.


The ambitious opening ceremony will take place along the River Seine instead of in a stadium.


The first medals will be awarded a day later and competition will conclude on 11 August, with the closing ceremony later that evening.

Paris 2024 Olympics India full schedule 📅 

The Indian contingent will kick off its campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics on July 25. 

117 athletes will be in action, competing in 69 medal events across 16 sports - Archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, table tennis and tennis. 

India returned with a record medal haul from Tokyo 2022, comprising seven medals, including a gold, and hence, will look to better the tally at Paris 2024.

What happened at the previous Olympics - Tokyo 2020?


India had their best-ever Olympic campaign in Tokyo, winning seven medals, including a gold, two silvers and four bronze medals. Neeraj Chopra was the star of the Games for India, becoming only the second individual gold medallist from the country.


Who are the big medal hopes for India?


There are usual suspects like Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu and PV Sindhu who won medals in Tokyo. Chopra will want to add one more Olympic gold in Paris while Sindhu will push to win her third individual Olympic medal, a historic first for India.

How many Olympic medals did India win and who has won the most?


India has won 35 medals at the Olympics and they found most success in hockey where they won 12 medals, mostly due to the men's team efforts from 1928-1936 and 1948-64.

Norman Pritchard was India's first-ever Olympic medallist back in 1900 while two hockey players have earned four Olympic medals in the past.


Who will be India's flag bearer at the opening ceremony?

Indian table tennis legend Sharath Kamal and two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu will be the flag bearers for India.
